MAIN CAST
ALICE JARMIN – Tall (for a lady), almost lanky, long straight black hair and a wide-eyed expression. Gesticulates wildly when she talks, but can comport herself in formal situations. A still somewhat resistant sorority girl, ALICE doesn’t want and doesn’t let her sisterhood define her college career. Ambitious, quick to learn, and quick to freak out, she doesn’t expose her vulnerability unless she feels absolutely safe with someone. As editor of the Reliquary, she’s uncertain of her abilities…and worse, unwilling to let others know just how nervous she is. Still, her heart is 100% in the right place. Because she went from Office Manager to Executive Editor, she lacks many of the necessary skills.
DAVID LI – Older, almost non-traditional student; a slightly overweight Asian slacker with perpetual stubble and a penchant for wearing hoodies even in sweltering heat. A genius writer and wordsmith, DAVID is nonetheless the quiet, bumbling type. He applied against Alice for the editor position, but has settled into a groove as her new Copy Editor. He cultivates a quiet ferocity inside of himself, and seems to be everyone’s dumping ground for secrets and guilt. He might reach the breaking point, soon.
ESPERANZA MORENO – A pretty, curvateous girl and a staunch GDI. Medium length hair in red ringlets—dyed, obviously—with olive skin and a terrible collectedness about herself. Involved in school politics at all levels thanks to considerably alumni contacts, ESPERANZA thought she was a shoe-in for the Editor position. Most of the Greeks call her “the Paparazzi,” because she’s started a smear campaign of taking the most embarrassing photos she can manage of them—or anyone who gets in her way/offends her sensibilities. She’s a bitch, certainly, but possesses a frightening sense of rationality and ability to sacrifice.
JANICE J. JOHNSON – Three-J is the exiting Editor, a heavyset woman with a bright blonde bob. Gregarious, honest, and a bit manipulative, JANICE didn’t actually recommend ALICE for the job, though her reasons seem hidden. While she’s moving on and out at the start of the story, JANICE remains the person that ALICE turns to in a pinch. She hasn’t yet left an ECHO.
SYBARIS, the DEMON – An old man with taut, grey skin and empty white eyes, SYBARIS seems to haunt the Reliquary’s office—though he generally only reveals himself to ALICE (and somehow seems to be working with DAVID for reasons unknown). Whenever he appears, the world goes black and white. The ECHOES refuse to discuss him point-blank. His intentions are unclear; he sometimes helps, and sometimes hinders—though never through any overt show of force.
The ECHOES – Another strange phenomenon unique to the Reliquary, their Archive closet seems to play host to the ECHOES of former editors. Like SYBARIS, they only appear to ALICE, but unlike SYBARIS they seem, by and large, to be her allies. The loudest and most frequently encountered is MICHELLE BREDEAUX, a memory of the 20-year old woman who would grow up to be ESPERANZA’s late mother.
MINOR CAST
EDDY TRAXTON – TRAX to his friends. Svelte, scragly, blond with perpetual bedhead. Looks somewhat like a goat. A freshman and a pledge to Omega Omega Omega, EDDY’s friends are almost universally upperclassmen met through the fraternity, and he has trouble feeling like a third wheel. He joined the Reliquary as a swing—both a reporter and photographer. He’s become a target for ESPERANZA, but is proving difficult, as he’s pretty straight-laced.
MELISSA MOXLEY – Short, petit, and vaguely ethnic though of uncertain providence, MELISSA is one of the Reliquary’s most talented photographers and not above using her wiles and charms to get the best possible picture. She was one of the staff MVP hires for JANICE, and is uncertain whether to remain loyal to ALICE, or to throw her support behind DAVID or ESPERANZA.
SAMUEL TRIVEDI – A tall, strapping Indian lad with a regrettably antique sense of fashion, SAMUEL is the best non-DAVID reporter on staff and DAVID’s roommate. The two are almost always seen together, and while DAVID is quiet, SAMUEL is more willing to show off. He doesn’t much care for ALICE—not in a vindictive way, but he holds firm to the idea that DAVID was robbed. SYBARIS seems to have an interest in him.
DR. HUGHBERT KREISBURG – A cherubic, balding man with a redish complexion and a sense of great severity, HUGHBERT is the long-suffering advisor to the Reliquary in addition to about fifty other minor committees, clubs, organizations, and panels. Still, the Reliquary is his official job and he takes it seriously, though his personal management policy is very hands-off. He wields guilt and shame as the strongest tools in getting shit done.
DR. SUZANNE ORBE – A long streak of a woman with frazzled brown hair and wide, unblinking eyes, SUZANNE is flighty, joyous, and patient, if a bit unknowingly patronizing. She may or may not, in fact, be sane. She is HUGHBERT’s boss and ALICE’s staunched advocate.
LUANNE MOXLEY – MELISSA’s staunch older sister, a staunch Greek and a Delta Delta Tau sister whose normal silence and composure erodes into a manic enthusiasm for her sisterhood. Not certain what to make of the Reliquary, she’s wary of the staff after JANICE let some of ESPERANZA’s bias slide into volume 99. Looks like a taller, more subdued MELISSA. President of the Greek Parliament.
FRANZIBALD LIGHTSEY – Affable, stocky, and squinty—a proud black man and choir singer, and the director of Student Activities, the Office that houses Reliquary. One of the biggest faculty advocates for keeping the Reliquary.
CAMERON RAY - Petite, insightful, acerbic--this ROTC student is reeling after his dearest friends graduated, including JANICE. Despite being a graphic design genius, he hasn't reapplied to the Reliquary--without his friends, his identiy had disintegrated.
